The following email has been sent to all of the Weymouth Half Marathon runners today, Saturday 14th March 2020:
Dear Runner
With the Weymouth Half Marathon only 1 week away, we understand that there are concerns and uncertainties around events across the UK. As you will have seen on the news, the latest situation and advice from the UK Government on the Covid-19 pandemic is being updated and revised on a daily basis.
As of today (Saturday 14th March), the advice remains that infection from outdoor events such as the Weymouth Half Marathon, remains low and that there is no epidemiological or medical evidence to suggest that mass participation events of this size should be restricted at this time.
Based on this advice we are currently planning to go ahead with the Weymouth Half Marathon on the 22nd March. We are, however, continually monitoring the situation and if anything changes we will update you as early as possible, via email and our social media channels. Regardless of this we will email all runners on Monday with more event details.
In the meantime we would appreciate it if you could check our social media and avoid emailing us directly.
