The following email has been sent to all runners today, Monday 16th March regarding the 2020 Weymouth Half Marathon;
After continued monitoring of the Covid-19 pandemic and the government’s advice, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule the Weymouth Half Marathon until Sunday 6th September 2020.
Today the government did not ban mass participation events. What they did do was say that people should avoid non-essential travel and avoid contact with others. They also advised reducing social contact and increasing social distancing. With this advice we have no other option but to reschedule the Weymouth Half Marathon.
The team are really disappointed as they have been working hard to ensure we were able to deliver a great event on what would have been the biggest Weymouth Half Marathon to date. We will continue to work on delivering an exceptional event experience on 6th September 2020.
If you are unable to participate on the new date we are offering a virtual alternative whereby you run 13.1 miles, as a single session before Monday 6th April 2020. This can be done wherever you are in the world, just provide us with evidence of the run (Strava, Garmin, Apple Health etc.) and we will send you a 2020 Weymouth Half Marathon Finishers medal and buff. For those who take up this virtual option, we are also offering you a 50% discount into the 2021 event.
If we haven’t heard from you before the 6th April 2020 you will be automatically transferred to the new date of 6th September 2020. It is important that you keep the issued race number for the September event as you will not be issued another one.
Whilst we wanted to put on a great event, we absolutely do not want to compromise the safety of participants, volunteers and spectators nor the local / wider community. We hope you understand and appreciate the difficulty in coming to this decision, which has been taken out of our hands.
Please accept our apologies for any disruption that this may have caused and we look forward to making your event experience in September one to remember.
